The Law Offices of Timothy R. Binder performs four critical roles to improve the safety, profitability and growth of your business.

1. Preventative law: We conduct a legal review of your business, perform pro-active legal risk management, and interact with Ownership and management to minimize and prevent legal problems and to avoid "surprises."

2. Routine legal matters: We get to know and understand your core business, so that your recurring legal services are performed systematically and cost-effectively.

3. Outside legal services: We efficiently manage the outside law firm and the legal process to assure the best service at a fair price.

4. Business Environment: We provide that critical interface between your business goals and the law, from both a business and legal perspective. We understand business and know that solid legal advice is a critical element of a successful management team and a profitable business.

1. Legal Review: We provide a confidential review of your business, your insurance, contracts and leases, claims and litigation, and interview key people to determine your potential legal risks, all at no cost to you.

2. Meet with Ownership: Based upon the legal review, we meet with Ownership to develop a legal business plan, including the scope of on-going and recurring legal work, staffing and budget, again at no cost to you.

3. Implement and Review: We implement the agreed upon legal business plan, meet, review and adjust as needed.

It has been my privilege to serve as Corporate General Counsel for the Hotel Del Coronado, Ambassador M. Larry Lawrence (Forbes 400) and affiliated businesses since 1978, anchoring a four-lawyer in-house legal department providing a full range of business and real estate legal services, including business litigation. My Law Office has been established to provide the same high-quality "General Counsel" legal services to businesses whose legal needs do not demand a full time General Counsel, but do require recurring, cost-effective legal advice and representation.

It is my belief that every business should have a General Counsel to provide for its legal safety, profitability and growth. Personal knowledge of your business, broadly based legal expertise and personal accessibility (preferably on site at your business) are the hallmarks of a General Counsel.

While attorneys are available for one-time, single representation on a traditional hourly basis, the best value to businesses is provided by establishing the General Counsel relationship for a minimum of at least one day per month. To better present this concept, it is my pleasure to conduct a complimentary legal review of your business and meet with Ownership to develop a legal business plan defining the scope of on-going and recurring legal work, staffing and budget.

Sophisticated technology is used to provide efficient, cost-effective legal services anywhere a notebook computer can be utilized. With both a traditional and a CD-Rom law library, Internet connectivity and on-line legal research capability, General Counsel services are provided on-site at your business, as though you had a full time Legal Department with big firm capability at your fingertips.

General Counsel services are provided on an all-inclusive retainer basis at the rate of $1,500 per day plus reimbursable expenses. This rate includes all agreed upon services except for litigation and similar extraordinary work. You are not billed in "minimum increments" of time or for "word processing" and other overhead expenses. The initial rate is guaranteed for the first year. Retainer services are invoiced monthly in advance. Other services and reimbursable expenses are invoiced monthly in arrears. Time expended is tracked internally and periodically reviewed and discussed with you so that you clearly understand and can budget for recurring legal expenses. Adjustments to the retainer are made as necessary.

If hourly rates are requested, they range from $200 to $375 depending on the complexity of the matter and the billing rate of the individual attorney.
